Fire safety deadline approaches

Multi-storey buildings must implement fire safety protocols by Feb 15: CBC

As public safety remains a top priority, the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) has advised the owners and management of multi-storey buildings declared dangerous to implement all fire safety protocols and ensure the installation of the required equipment by the February 15, 2026 deadline. In case of non-compliance, the CBC has warned that it reserves the right to initiate legal action over violations of fire safety regulations. The CBC has also advised the public to avoid visiting shopping malls and other marketplaces that have been declared dangerous. The required measures include the installation of fire extinguishers, fire alarms and sprinkler systems, clearance of emergency exits and corridors, placement of guidance maps on each floor of the building, and the nomination of fire safety contingents by the respective associations. It may be recalled that the CBC had conducted fire safety audit of all ground-plus-four and above buildings within its jurisdiction in Defence and Clifton, and issued notices to ensure compliance of fire safety regulations.
