CEO Omar Farooq vows ‘real-time’ drainage of monsoon rainwater
Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) is fully prepared to deal with the upcoming monsoon season and will ensure the prompt drainage of rainwater.
This was stated by CBC CEO Mohammad Omar Farooq Ali Malik on the occasion of the launch of mock exercises aimed at handling any emergency situation during rainfall.
During a special briefing to media representatives, he said that the objective of these exercises is to test the efficiency of the drainage system and operational machinery. He informed that more than 1,300 trained personnel along with over 250 dewatering pumps and additional machinery and vehicles will remain on standby to effectively respond to rain-related challenges. He further said that Clifton Cantonment has been divided into eight operational zones for better management.
He emphasised that rain management is the most important annual operational activity of the civic agency. All preparations for this year’s monsoon were completed in advance and mock exercises have already been initiated.
Responding to media queries, he noted that this series of pre-monsoon mock exercises was introduced last year and delivered highly positive results. For the first time since 2020, the DHA area was completely cleared of rainwater within a few hours during last year’s rains, while water remained accumulated in other parts of the city.
He further shared that significant improvements have been made in infrastructure over the past year. Roads have been reconstructed and development work on stormwater drains has been completed, making them fully functional.
CEO Mohammad Omar Farooq Ali Malik expressed confidence that with strengthened infrastructure “real-time” drainage during the upcoming monsoon will be ensured, minimising inconvenience for residents.
