27th October marks a dark chapter in history — a day being observed as Black Day by Pakistanis and Kashmiris across the world. On this day in 1947, Indian forces illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir in blatant violation of the will of its people and the principles of partition.
Since then, the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have endured decades of oppression, unlawful detentions, and grave human rights abuses under India’s brutal military occupation. The occupation has stripped millions of Kashmiris of their fundamental rights — freedom of expression, movement, and self-determination.
Moreover, the unilateral and illegal actions of 5th August 2019, when India revoked the special autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir, further deepened the wounds of injustice and defiance of international law.
Despite this repression, the indomitable spirit of the Kashmiri people remains unbroken, as they continue their peaceful struggle for freedom and dignity.
Pakistan, on this solemn occasion, reaffirms its unwavering moral, diplomatic, and political support to the Kashmiri cause. The people and Government of Pakistan stand shoulder to shoulder with their Kashmiri brothers and sisters, echoing their call for justice and self-determination as enshrined in United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. These resolutions clearly recognize Kashmir as a disputed territory and uphold the right of its people to determine their own future through a free and impartial plebiscite under UN supervision.
The international community must take cognizance of the grave human rights violations in IIOJK and hold India accountable for its persistent defiance of global norms.
Peace in South Asia cannot prevail without a just resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Charter and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. On this Black Day, Pakistan renews its solemn pledge — to continue standing with the resilient people of Jammu and Kashmir until they achieve their long-denied right to self-determination and freedom from oppression.
